BOOK WRITING UPDATE

Six things I’ve discovered while writing Le Kitchen Cookbook: a workbook.

  1. Writing a book has been a dream of mine for a long time and it’s done. Before I started, I made a decision that I was going to self-publish my book. It was important for me that I didn’t leave it up to an agent or a publisher to decide if my book should be published. I wanted to be the one with that power. That was probably the most important decision I made that made writing the book possible.
  1. The good news is that it’s been REALLY FUN!! I’ve loved watching my ideas develop into a real book with a beginning, middle, and end.
  1. Editing has been a harsh reality. It has forced me to go from the big picture to the minute details—back and forth over and over. I finally discovered a way to see both at the same time: I printed my outline document, cut it up, taped it back together, and now I have one very long piece of paper with everything I need to see on it. Then there is grammar and English to deal with. Not that easy for this French girl. (I learned to speak English instead of how to punctuate a sentence.)

Book layout that I understand

  1. People are excited about the book. I can’t tell you how gratifying that is. I didn’t write the book for myself; I wrote it for YOU. And to know that you’re looking forward to it being published is really heart-warming.
  1. There is still an unknown, and unknowns are scary. The unknown is the process of completing all the required steps and then uploading the book to be published on Amazon.
  1. And finally, the process takes a lot more time than I ever imagined, but little by little I’m getting to that magic moment when the finished book will be in my hands and available to you.

Do you want to cook something good for Sunday dinner?
Try this chicken stew recipe. I know, I know it’s Superbowl Sunday and this isn’t what you normally eat, but hey, it’s good and different. Make it Saturday and serve it on Sunday.

“My family and I LOVE this chicken stew!
And I have some picky eaters!”

Adeline, you are a force! The way you printed everything out and taped it together is pure genius. I’m stealing this idea for a big project I’m working on!

Thanks for sharing, :)

Congrats, Adeline, on your decision to self-publish your cookbook! As with writing my book, I also found that it empowered me to stay the course with continual rewriting as well as welcome the corrective minutia of editing. When you reach the day of your publication, relax and enjoy the moment in every cell of your body, because there lies ahead much, much more to be done! Self-publishing means self-marketing, which requires perseverance for the duration and as much luck as skill. You can start prreparing now by outlining a plan for using social media in the marketing of your book. Good luck and best wishes!

FRUIT, WINE, A BIT OF SUGAR—NOT SANGRIA BUT THE ULTIMATE IN SUMMER DESSERTS

During the last two posts I’ve been writing about serving fruits for dessert. It has brought up memories of the long lunches we would have during what seemed to be those endless summer days I spent in the South of France when we all gathered at my grandparents’ home. Lunch was the main meal of the day, we lingered...

After the harshness of winter, spring is when the earth warms up enough to allow the new growth of the season to break through and flourish as the first crops of the season. The tastes are fresh and still full of the sun’s warmth—ready for us to enjoy. The first crops, asparagus, lettuce, and strawberries, to name . . .

I love fruits and always have. More often than not fruits are served for dessert in France. It is more common there than it is in the US. Finishing a meal with a little sweet is the perfect balance to satisfy our taste buds, but in the US sugar has become our sweet of choice and something we overindulge in. I read...
